The Storyteller

Learn about the elusive Selkie of Scottish lore. Much like the mermaid the Selkie has captivated the imagination of young and old alike. According to legend, the Selkie is a seal that sheds its skin so it may become human and live on land for a short time in human form. The storyteller will bring to life some of the old tales regarding this marvelous mythical creature in an interactive and educational discussion.

Folk Music & Contra Dancing

What is a festival without live music? We are lucky enough to have the talents of blues guitarist and singer Jake Elwell with Matt Austin on the Irish fiddle.

Also bringing us their style of New England folk music will be Christine Anderson from New Ipswich on fiddle, John Rosenfelder from New Ipswich on bass, and Frank Woodward from Bennington, NH, on the piano. Frank, an experienced caller, will also call the contra dances, We welcome all, young and old, from beginners to seasoned steppers to join us for contra dancing. Come bring the family and learn this traditional New England dance.

Have you ever tried contra dancing? It is as popular in New England as maple syrup. Originating in 18th century England, contra dancing is a mix of Irish jigs and British and French folk music. It is fast and fun. And it doesn’t matter if you’ve never done it before because these dances are open to beginners and old hands alike.

There's lots to do at the festival.
